Sunbury Grill is the place you go when you’re not in a hurry but want really good food. This is truly a family affair. Kenny White and his brother-in-law Allen Wandle, own and operate the grill. Working side-by-side Kenny is his partner in life, Daisy; his sister, Cassie; his cousin, Lacey; his “might-as-well-be my brother” according to Kenny, Mike; along with Pat & Mary. Brian & Darren round out the staff on the grill. All food is cooked fresh and made to order from family recipes past down from generation to generation.
Cooking runs in Kenny’s blood. His father, a chef, was a great influence on him and is probably the reason why family loyalty runs deep. Having the chance to experience Cajun and Creole cuisine from Louisiana to the fresh flavors from Miami, plus his past restaurant management experience, Kenny brings spice and flair to those family recipes with smart business practices.
Sunbury Grill itself is in a historic structure in Sunbury having stood the test of time for about 100 years and has been a restaurant since the 40’s. It seats 53 and although Kenny would love to update the interior, the goal is to keep the charm and antiquity of the building and preserving its heritage.
Sunbury Grill has its loyal customers and fans. One, with his own spot at the counter, is Willie. Retired from Showa, Willie now works part-time at NAPA. Kenny fondly speaks of Willie as “head of security” for the grill—he is there every day—greets them in the morning and closes the place down in the afternoon. Truly a customer for life.
Sunbury Grill is located at 38 E. Cherry Street and is open from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. daily. If there is a line out the door, take a seat on the bench outside. It’s worth the wait.
