Sunbury Council Vacancy

During the council meeting on April 21st, Tommy Hatfield submitted his resignation to Council as Mayor of Sunbury effective Friday, April 30th, 2021.  Joe St. John, currently Council President, will assume the role of Mayor on May 1st.  A new council president will be selected and voted upon by Council on May 5th leaving a vacancy on Council.  According to our Charter, a vacancy of Council shall be filled by a majority vote of the members of the Council (including the Mayor) within 30 days after the vacancy occurs.  Interested applicants for the Council vacancy should send a letter of interest and resume to the Sunbury Municipal Office, Attn:  Allen Rothermel,  PO Box 508, Sunbury, OH 43074 or email on or before May 12th.

Council meets the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month at 7:30 pm with additional committee meetings as assigned. 

Per ORC 731.12 all interested candidates MUST have resided in the corporate limits of the Village of Sunbury for a period of one year prior to their potential appointment and be an elector of the Village. No member of the legislative authority shall hold any other public office, be interested in any contract with the Village, or hold employment with the Village, except that such member may be a notary public, a member of the state militia, or a volunteer fireman of the Village, provided that such member shall not receive any compensation for his services as a volunteer fireman of the Village in addition to his regular compensation as a member of the legislative authority.

Any member who ceases to possess any of such qualifications or who moves from the Village shall forfeit the member's office.
